About

Anita Lococo

Anita Lococo attended the University of San Francisco with a BA in anthropology. She has been an anthropologist of other countries and lived most of her life outside of her birth country, California, USA.  Her only formal training as an artist has been with private teachers. Artist Belle Baranceanu, introduced her to oil painting during her childhood and teenage years at Francis W. Parker School, San Diego, Ca. She studied sumi-e painting in Japan for five years with teacher Hiroko Hashima.  During the 1980’s Anita also was a fashion designer with her own brand manufacturing in Hong Kong and distributing in the USA. Then later in life, Anita, again, studied painting with Noella Roos (Dutch) and Kimberly Brooks (USA), while living in Bali. She started seriously painting with oils at age 65 and she has not had any exhibitions, as of yet.

In 2005, she published, “Living in Bali” (Taschen) and in 2016 published “Women in Bali” (Silvana Editorale) writing the texts for these photographic books and coordinating the projects. Her first body of art work (2020) is entitled, “For God’s Sake”, which primarily are paintings with the themes of Asia and Bali, expressing the lifestyle of the people and places. She presently is exploring more collage with painting and expanding her theme to encompass shapes and forms into a universal theme of how these traditional ways play in a contemporary world.  Anita believes one can pursue a passion for expression at any time in life, with no expectations of where it goes, professionally or not.
